Checked October 2026

Stage One was held on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October 2026. The Tiffin Girls' School tells parents on or around Wednesday 14 October 2026 whether their daughter is invited to Stage Two on Saturday 7 November 2026.

The local authority application is due by Saturday 31 October 2026, per the school's Year 7 admissions page. The school's 2027 admissions FAQs ask families whose daughter is invited to Stage Two and who live in the catchment area to enter The Tiffin Girls' School as one of their choices on it; if a girl is not invited, her application to the school becomes ineligible, which does not affect her other preferences.

Preparing for Tiffin Girls' School — Where to Start

The first thing to understand is how oversubscribed the school is. Its own Admissions Information 2024-26 records 1,468 girls tested at Stage One for 2026 entry, for 180 places, and every place since the Designated Area was introduced in September 2014 has gone to a girl living in the catchment. For 2027 entry, registration opened on 2 June 2026, in the summer term of Year 5, and Stage One was held in October of Year 6, so the working window was Year 5 and the first weeks of Year 6.

The most important early step is an honest assessment of where your daughter stands. Strong natural ability is a foundation, but it is not sufficient on its own. The school says its tests are designed to identify children who enjoy and are adept at reading, writing, thinking creatively, working with numbers and problem-solving. Those skills take time and structured practice to build, and there are no past papers to lean on: the school does not publish them.

How The Tiffin Girls' School's Stage One and Stage Two Tests Work

Both stages are English and maths. The school changes its papers every year, often the number of questions, the time limits and the question types, and it does not run mock tests of its own. It assumes girls have completed the Year 5 National Curriculum in English and maths and does not expect topics beyond it, although some questions come in unfamiliar formats that test how a girl applies what she knows.

Stage One: 1 and 2 October 2026, marked by computer

Stage One was held in four sessions over two days, Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October 2026, and the school allocated each girl's date; it could not take requests for a particular day. The school's 2027 admissions FAQs describe an English paper and a maths paper, each lasting less than 60 minutes with a short break between them. They describe the English paper as multiple choice and the maths paper as having different question types, some multiple choice and others needing a numerical answer, with every answer marked on an OMR sheet read by a computer.

The OMR sheet used for Stage One had a column for each digit of a numerical answer. The columns stood for units, tens and hundreds, so a two-digit answer took two columns and a three-digit answer three, and a time went into four columns like a digital clock, so five past seven was entered as 07:05. The school's 2027 admissions FAQs show worked examples of each. It emails around Wednesday 14 October 2026 to say whether a girl is invited to Stage Two, and it does not give Stage One scores.

Stage Two: 7 November 2026, written answers

Stage Two, on Saturday 7 November 2026 for girls invited, is again English and maths and similar in length to Stage One, but the answers are written. The English paper includes a reading comprehension task and a creative writing task, some English questions need longer written answers, and English is answered in booklets. Maths has an answer sheet, and no marks are given for calculations or workings out. The papers are set and marked by the school, which offers no sport or music aptitude places.

How the Combined Mark is built

Girls who sit Stage Two and have named the school on their local authority application are ranked on a Combined Mark that is 60% English and 40% maths. The English mark comes from Stage Two alone; the maths mark combines Stage Two and Stage One maths in a ratio of 3:1. All marks are standardised and age-weighted. Worked through, each paper's share of the ranking is:

PaperShare of the Combined Mark
Stage Two English (written)60%
Stage Two maths (written answers)30%: 40% × 3/4
Stage One maths (computer-marked)10%: 40% × 1/4
Stage One English (computer-marked)None: it decides the Stage Two invitation only

Source: The Tiffin Girls' School, admissions FAQs for entry in September 2027 (the 60/40 split and the 3:1 ratio; the shares are our arithmetic), retrieved 3 October 2026.

That is our arithmetic on the published weighting, not a figure the school states. Stage Two English alone carries 60% of the ranking, a heavier share than at the boys' school, where Stage Two English is 50% of the Combined Score; our Tiffin School 11+ page works through that school's weighting.

What Makes Tiffin Girls' School So Competitive

The school publishes its own Admissions Information 2024-26 on its Year 7 Admissions page. Its Published Admission Number was 180 for each of 2024, 2025 and 2026 entry, and the intake for September 2027 is 180 girls in six forms of 30.

The school notes that its area figures use the address given at registration, which is not necessarily the application address, and that the table should not be used to make comparisons because its policy can vary each year and each cohort is different. Within the 2026-entry column, our arithmetic rather than figures the school publishes: 474 of 1,468 girls, about 32%, reached Stage Two; there were 8.2 girls tested at Stage One for every place; and 1,322 of the 1,468, about 90%, registered from inside the Designated Area.

All places for 2024, 2025 and 2026 entry went to girls living in the Designated Area or the Inner Area, and a girl living outside the catchment is ranked below every applicant inside it, whatever her mark, unless her education, health and care plan names the school or she is a looked-after or previously looked-after girl at or above the 350th-ranked mark. The catchment has two parts, set out in the school's determined admissions arrangements for September 2027:

The Inner Area matters because of a reserved band. Among girls whose Combined Mark is at or above the 350th-ranked mark of all Stage Two candidates, places go to looked-after and previously looked-after girls, then up to 60 places to pupil premium or service premium girls living in the Inner or Designated Area and then to Inner Area girls. The remaining places go in Combined Mark order to girls in the Designated Area, then to girls outside it. A girl whose education, health and care plan names the school has the highest priority, although she must still sit the tests, and looked-after and previously looked-after girls, and pupil premium or service premium girls living in the Designated Area, get a 10% leeway on the Stage One cut-off and on the 350th-ranked mark. Our guide to the grammar schools in Kingston and Richmond sets the girls' school beside the other local options.

How Leading Tuition Prepares Students for the Stage One and Stage Two tests

Leading Tuition provides 1-to-1 specialist tutoring for the Stage One and Stage Two tests, tailored to each child's individual starting point and the specific demands of the Tiffin Girls' admissions process. Our tutors work on the two subjects the school actually tests, English and maths, at both stages: the multiple-choice reading and OMR-entered maths of Stage One and the comprehension, creative writing and written maths answers of Stage Two.

A structured preparation programme with Leading Tuition typically includes:

We do not believe in overloading children with hours of daily work. Consistent, focused sessions over a well-planned timeline produce better results — and better-prepared children — than last-minute intensive cramming.

Supporting the Whole Family Through the 11+ Process

It is easy to focus entirely on your daughter's preparation and overlook the emotional dimension of this process for the whole family. Months of preparation are a long time for a child to sustain motivation, particularly when the goal — a school place — feels abstract. Parents often find themselves managing their own anxiety while trying to keep their daughter calm and confident.

The most resilient children we work with are those whose parents have found a way to keep the 11+ in proportion. Celebrating small progress, maintaining normal routines, and avoiding constant discussion of the exam at home all make a genuine difference. Your daughter needs to feel that she is preparing well — not that the outcome of a single test defines her worth or her future.

It also helps to have a clear plan. Uncertainty about whether preparation is sufficient is one of the main sources of parental anxiety. Working with a specialist tutor who can give you an honest, informed view of your daughter's progress removes much of that uncertainty.

Our Kingston 11+ page sets the two Tiffin schools' dates side by side. For official entry requirements, see The Tiffin Girls' School's Year 7 admissions page, or book a free consultation to talk through your daughter's options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has registration for The Tiffin Girls' School's 2027 entry closed?

Yes. Registration for September 2027 entry closed at 12.00 noon on Tuesday 1 September 2026. The school calls the closing date a firm deadline, accepts no late registrations and makes no exceptions, and supplementary paperwork such as evidence of special needs or pupil premium eligibility had to arrive by the same deadline; under the determined arrangements, pupil premium or looked-after evidence that arrives after it but before the Stage Two test day still earns an eligible girl the 10% leeway on the Stage Two mark, though not on the Stage One mark. A girl who did not register cannot sit Stage One; her family may still name the school on the local authority application, but she is placed below every girl who took the tests, and the school would consider her only if places were still unfilled after every valid application, by setting a further test. That application is due by Saturday 31 October 2026.

What is on the Tiffin Girls' School Stage One test?

The school's 2027 admissions FAQs describe an English paper and a maths paper, each lasting less than 60 minutes with a short break between them. They describe the English paper as multiple choice and the maths paper as having different question types, some multiple choice and others needing a numerical answer, with every answer marked on an OMR sheet read by a computer. For 2027 entry, Stage One was held in four sessions over Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October 2026, on a date the school allocated. The school emails around 14 October 2026 to say whether a girl is invited to Stage Two, without giving Stage One scores.

What is the Tiffin Girls' Stage Two test like?

Stage Two, on Saturday 7 November 2026 for girls invited, is English and maths again and similar in length to Stage One, but with written answers. The English paper includes a reading comprehension task and a creative writing task, and some questions need longer answers written in booklets. Maths answers go on an answer sheet and no marks are given for calculations or workings out. The school sets and marks the papers itself, and it does not mark Stage Two papers for girls whose families have not applied for a place.

How is the Combined Mark calculated at The Tiffin Girls' School?

Girls who sit Stage Two and have named the school on their application are ranked on a Combined Mark that is 60% English and 40% maths. The English mark comes from Stage Two; the maths mark combines Stage Two and Stage One maths in a ratio of 3:1, and all marks are standardised and age-weighted. Worked through, which is our arithmetic rather than a figure the school states, Stage Two English carries 60% of the ranking, Stage Two maths 30% and Stage One maths 10%, while Stage One English carries none.

Do you have to live in the Designated Area for Tiffin Girls'?

In practice, yes. Every place since the Designated Area was introduced in September 2014 has been offered to a girl living in the catchment, and the school ranks a girl living outside it below every applicant inside it, whatever her mark. The exceptions are a girl whose education, health and care plan names the school, who is placed first under paragraph 5.1.1 of the determined admissions arrangements for September 2027 and must still have shown her ability through the school's tests, and a looked-after or previously looked-after girl at or above the 350th-ranked Combined Mark. The Designated Area is 44 postal districts, listed in the determined admissions arrangements for September 2027; KT11, TW6 and SW16 are not among them. Among girls at or above that same 350th-ranked mark, up to 60 places then go to pupil premium or service premium girls living in the Inner or Designated Area, and then to Inner Area girls.

How many girls sit the Tiffin Girls' 11+?

The school's Admissions Information 2024-26 records 1,468 girls tested at Stage One for 2026 entry, 474 tested at Stage Two and 180 places. For 2025 entry the figures were 1,498, 475 and 180. On our arithmetic, about 32% of the 2026-entry Stage One field reached Stage Two, there were 8.2 girls tested for every place, and about 90% of the girls tested at Stage One registered from inside the Designated Area. The school says the table should not be used to make comparisons, because its policy and each cohort vary.

When will we hear the Tiffin Girls' results?

The school emails around Wednesday 14 October 2026 to say whether a girl is invited to Stage Two. Offers come from your local authority after 5.00pm on 1 March 2027, National Offer Day, and can also be viewed on eAdmissions. Families whose daughter is on the waiting list, because she has no higher-preference offer, are told her Stage Two results on 2 March 2027. A girl offered a lower-preference school goes on the waiting list automatically if she met the admission criteria, and local authorities start making additional offers at the end of March, subject to availability.

When should we start preparing for the Tiffin Girls' 11+?

Work back from the school's calendar. For 2027 entry, registration opened on 2 June 2026, in the summer term of Year 5, and Stage One was held on 1 and 2 October 2026, early in Year 6. The school assumes the Year 5 National Curriculum in English and maths, so preparation is less about new content than about accurate reading, creative writing under time and careful maths. Structured work through Year 5 leaves room to build those skills without cramming, and a diagnostic assessment shows where a particular girl needs to begin.

How do we keep our daughter motivated over such a long preparation period?

Motivation tends to hold up best when progress is visible and sessions feel manageable. Short, regular tutoring sessions with clear goals work better than long, infrequent ones. It also helps to keep preparation in proportion — your daughter should still have time for hobbies, friends, and rest. A tutor who builds a positive relationship with your child makes a significant difference to how she feels about the process.

How can Leading Tuition help with Tiffin Girls' School 11+ preparation?

Our specialist 11+ tutors prepare girls for the two stages The Tiffin Girls' School actually sets: timed multiple-choice English and OMR-entered maths for Stage One, then the comprehension, creative writing and written maths of Stage Two, where English carries 60% of the Combined Mark. We start with a diagnostic assessment and build a programme around the gaps it finds, with timed practice for both papers. 91% of our students achieve their desired grades.
