Book a Free ConsultationFor Singapore students applying to UK medicine, the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) is the first major hurdle at any university that requires it. A Singapore-specific UCAT guide also needs to cover which UK medical schools appear on the Second Schedule of the Medical Registration Act, how National Service can affect the timing of a UCAS application for male applicants, which Singapore medical schools the UCAT Consortium lists as partners, and how NTU LKCMedicine's application uses the UCAT. This guide covers UCAT test centres and the 2026 dates, the UK medical schools on the Second Schedule, National Service timing, which Singapore medical schools the UCAT Consortium lists as partners and how NTU LKCMedicine's application uses the UCAT, UCAT's preliminary 2026 score deciles, and how Leading Tuition supports Singapore-based UCAT preparation.
Checked September 2026
UCAT registration, booking and testing for the 2026 cycle have closed, with the last test day on 24 September 2026; the UCAS deadline is 15 October 2026.
The Second Schedule of the Medical Registration Act 1997 lists 26 UK medical schools, including City St George's, University of London and the University of Exeter, added with effect from 1 February 2026. The UCAT Consortium lists both NUS and NTU's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine as partner universities, and LKCMedicine's own admissions pages set out how its applicants use the UCAT.
Yes, if you apply to a UK medical school that uses it. The UCAT is used by the UCAT Consortium's UK and partner universities to help select applicants to their medical and dental degrees, and Singapore students sit the same test as other candidates, with the same four subtests and the same scoring. The fee for tests taken outside the UK differs from the fee for tests taken in the UK. Since the 2025 testing cycle, the UCAT is delivered as a single sitting of just under two hours, covering four sections: Verbal Reasoning (22 minutes, 44 questions), Decision Making (37 minutes, 35 questions), Quantitative Reasoning (26 minutes, 36 questions), and the Situational Judgement Test (26 minutes, 69 items). Abstract Reasoning, a fifth section that used to sit alongside these, was withdrawn from the test from 2025, so Singapore students preparing for the UCAT should ignore any older prep material still built around a five-section test.
The three cognitive sections (Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning) are each scored on a scale of 300–900, for a combined cognitive total of 900 to 2,700. The SJT is scored separately on a Band 1–4 scale, with Band 1 the strongest. How a UK medical school uses UCAT scores varies by school: see UCAT's “How UK universities use the UCAT” page and each school's own admissions page. Because the UCAT tests reasoning speed and accuracy rather than subject knowledge, Singaporean students who have excelled at H2 Biology and Chemistry, or at IB HL sciences, still need dedicated UCAT-specific practice — strong exam technique in a knowledge-based system does not transfer automatically to an aptitude test in which Verbal Reasoning, for example, averages 30 seconds a question.
The UCAT universities page lists the courses that require the UCAT for 2027 entry. Confirm each target school's current test requirement directly on its admissions page before finalising your UCAS shortlist.
UCAT states that test centres are available in many countries, and Singapore students can use the UCAT test centre locator to find their nearest Pearson VUE centre. The UCAT is a computer-based test.
The 2026 UCAT cycle followed a fixed set of deadlines set centrally by the UCAT Consortium, with no exceptions to the 16 September 2026 booking deadline:

For 2026 testing the fee for tests taken outside the UK was £115. UCAT's bursary is available to UK candidates who meet its criteria. All candidates, including returning ones, had to create a new UCAT account for 2026 testing because of a new registration system. Booking opened on 23 June 2026.
For Singapore students, this is one of the most important considerations when choosing UK medical schools. If you intend to eventually register with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and practise medicine in Singapore, SMC's registration page names two routes for overseas-trained doctors: a degree from a university on the Second Schedule of the Medical Registration Act 1997 (the list of registrable basic medical qualifications), or a registrable postgraduate medical qualification recognised by SMC, in each case subject to SMC's prevailing criteria for registration. The Second Schedule lists 26 UK medical schools, including two added with effect from 1 February 2026: City St George's, University of London and the University of Exeter.
The UK entries on the Second Schedule are: University of Aberdeen, Queen's University Belfast, University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, University of Cambridge, Cardiff University, University of Dundee, University of Edinburgh, University of Exeter, University of Glasgow, Imperial College London, King's College London, University of Leeds, University of Leicester, University of Liverpool, University of Manchester, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, University of Nottingham, University of Oxford, Queen Mary University of London (Barts and The London), University of Sheffield, St George's, University of London (St George's Hospital Medical School), University of Southampton, City St George's, University of London, University College London, and University of Warwick.
Crucially, this list does not include several UK medical schools that require the UCAT, among them Hull York Medical School, Keele University, Aston University, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, Lancaster University, University of Plymouth, University of Sunderland, Swansea University, Anglia Ruskin University, University of Lancashire, and the University of East Anglia. A Singaporean student who accepts an offer from one of these universities would graduate with a degree that is not on the Second Schedule, which does not by itself make them eligible to apply for registration with the SMC. SMC's guidance for International Medical Graduates says that those who do not hold a qualification it recognises will not be eligible to apply for medical registration to be a medical practitioner in Singapore. If returning to practise in Singapore is part of your plan, build your four UCAS medicine choices from the 26 UK medical schools on the Second Schedule; if you are open to a career based outside Singapore, the full range of UCAT-requiring UK medical schools remains available to you.

Whether you take the Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level or the International Baccalaureate Diploma, each UK medical school publishes its own A-Level and IB requirements; check them on the school's admissions page, including how it counts a strong H1/H2 subject combination.
One practical note for Singaporean IB students: not every university treats predicted results in the same way. Check each target school's specific policy on IB predicted grades well before finalising your UCAS application.
National Service (NS) can affect when a male Singaporean applicant applies to UK medicine. Each university sets its own policy on deferred entry, so before choosing whether to apply before NS, during NS or after your Operationally Ready Date (ORD), check the deferral policy of every medical school you are considering and UCAS's guidance on deferring entry.
NTU's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) advises in its admissions FAQ that male applicants currently serving National Service should apply to MINDEF for permission to be released to attend its multiple mini-interview (MMI). If you are serving NS, raise any UCAT test date or interview invitation with your unit as early as possible. Female Singaporean applicants and those not serving NS follow the standard UK timeline without this additional layer of planning.
Singaporean students preparing for the UCAT for UK applications may also be considering NUS and NTU as local options. The UCAT Consortium lists the National University of Singapore (Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine) among the partner universities that use the UCAT; check NUS's own admissions page for who must sit it.
NTU's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) lists the UCAT among its application requirements, and the UCAT Consortium lists LKCMedicine as a partner university. LKCMedicine says that applicants select “Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU, Singapore)” when registering for the UCAT, quote their UCAT ID in the NTU online application, and use a UCAT taken in the twelve-month period before admission. Its admissions FAQ also says applicants must apply with their final examination results, not predictive assessment scores (graduating polytechnic students may apply with their first five semesters' results). Registration for UCAT 2026 closed on 16 September 2026. Always confirm the specific score expectations and application deadlines directly on the NTU LKCMedicine admissions page each cycle.
UCAT's own preliminary 2026 figures for all candidates, based on 20,794 tests taken up to 13 September 2026 and to be treated with significant caution, put the 5th decile at a total score of 1,980 and the 9th decile at 2,300.

For Singaporean students targeting 2027 UK medicine entry, the fixed dates were: UCAT registration opened on 20 May 2026 and booking opened on 23 June 2026; testing ran from 13 July 2026 to 24 September 2026, with a booking deadline of 16 September 2026 at 15:00 UK time. The UCAS deadline for 2027 medicine entry is 15 October 2026.

Reviewed September 2026: dates, figures and rules checked against the UCAT Consortium's test dates, universities, test format and scoring, test statistics, bursary and FAQs pages, Singapore Statutes Online (Medical Registration Act 1997, Second Schedule), the Singapore Medical Council's registration pages, the Singapore Ministry of Health's 27 January 2026 press release on recognised medical schools, and NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine's admissions pages.
Yes, if you apply to a UK medical school that uses it. The UCAT is required for the relevant courses at UCAT Consortium universities, and Singapore students sit the same test as other candidates, with the same four subtests and scoring, although the fee outside the UK differs. Since the 2025 testing cycle the UCAT has consisted of Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning, and the Situational Judgement Test (SJT); Abstract Reasoning was withdrawn from the test from 2025. Whichever qualification you hold, check each course's UCAT requirement with the university before booking; strong grades do not remove the need to prepare for a test that assesses a range of mental abilities.
UCAT test centres are available in many countries, and Singapore students can use the UCAT test centre locator to find their nearest Pearson VUE centre. The 2026 testing window ran from 13 July to 24 September, with the booking deadline on 16 September 2026 at 15:00 UK time. For 2026 testing the fee for tests taken outside the UK was £115. UCAT's bursary is available to UK candidates who meet its criteria. Booking opened on 23 June 2026.
The Second Schedule of the Medical Registration Act 1997 lists 26 UK medical schools, including two added with effect from 1 February 2026: City St George's, University of London and the University of Exeter. The list includes Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Imperial, King's, Edinburgh, Manchester, and 19 others, but it notably excludes several UK medical schools that use the UCAT, such as Hull York, Keele, Aston, Brighton and Sussex, Lancaster, Plymouth, Sunderland, Swansea, Anglia Ruskin, University of Lancashire, and East Anglia. If you intend to register with the SMC and practise in Singapore after graduating, prioritise the 26 UK medical schools on the Second Schedule when choosing your four UCAS medicine options.
National Service (NS) can affect when a male Singaporean student applies to UK medicine. Each university sets its own policy on deferred entry, so check the deferral policy of every medical school you are considering, and UCAS's guidance, before choosing whether to apply before NS, during NS or after your Operationally Ready Date (ORD). NTU's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) says in its admissions FAQ that male applicants currently serving National Service should apply for permission to be released by MINDEF for its multiple mini-interview, so raise any test date or interview with your unit early.
The UCAT Consortium lists both the National University of Singapore (Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine) and Nanyang Technological University (Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine) among its partner universities that use the UCAT, and NUS's own admissions page is the place to check who must sit it. LKCMedicine lists the UCAT among its application requirements. Applicants select “Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU, Singapore)” when registering for the UCAT, quote their UCAT ID in the NTU application, and use a UCAT taken in the twelve-month period before admission, according to LKCMedicine; registration for UCAT 2026 closed on 16 September 2026.
